It’s a Whole New World!

I’ve had my blog for almost a month & I have to say it has really opened my eyes to a wonderful knitting/crochet community!  You see, I am the only person that I know of that knits in my little circle of family and friends.  When I need (or want) yarn I went to Michaels or ordered from Mary Maxim or Knit Picks.  When I wanted to knit something I looked for patterns on the Lion Brand website or looked through the various catalogues or magazines I had.  But with this blog, I have discovered what seems like a whole new world!  I’ve been able to connect with other people that knit/crochet & have read about the projects that they are working on.  I had no clue there were so many people that knit!  I love it!  It is so exciting for me to go through and read the different blogs!  I never knew about spinning your own yarn!  It sounds fantastic!  One of these days I am going to try it!  And also dying your own yarn!  I’m also going to try that!  And one of the biggest things that I have discovered is this wonderful website called Ravelery!!!  I am AMAZED at everything that is on here!  OMG, I can spend hours & hours just browsing through the different patterns!

This blog has really opened my eyes to a whole new world!  I really feel like I had been living under a rock!  haha  This past week I had a random day off from work and decided to google to see if there were any yarn stores near me.  I live in South Florida and really didn’t think there were any, but to my surprise there were 3 of them!  And the closest one was just a 15-20 minute drive!  So guess what I did??  I got in my car & drove over there!  I walked in and just stood at the door. There was such an amazing variety of yarns!  I wanted to look at and touch each one of them!  Why did I never know about this!  I was like a kid in a candy store!

My husband had mentioned that he wanted me to make him a pair of socks just to hang around the house or when we go up to the mountains, just something comfy.  So I decided I was going to buy something here!  I spoke to Debra at the store who helped me find a pattern and then we walked around looking at different yarns that I could use.  I bought a yarn called Royal Alpaca (soooo very soft!) in a soft Khaki color.  I was so excited with my purchase.

I had blogged earlier about not being able to work on more than one project at a time, (working on more than one project at a time), but guess what!  I started working on the sock because I just couldn’t let that yarn sit!  So I accomplished 2 things that day, #1 found a great yarn store and #2 I’m working on more than one project!  Yippy!

The name of the store is The Raging Wool Yarn Shop.  They have Knit A Longs, classes, wonderful yarns & there are people that just go to the shop & knit.  I’m hoping to go one of these days & just meet some of the other knitters that go to the shop to work on projects and attend one of the Knit-A-Longs.  And they even have a class on how to use Ravelry which I may take to make sure I get the most out of that wonderful website!

Here is a picture of my the comfy socks so far.
