Learning Something New…2 Socks at the Same Time…

This week I finally decided to do something I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time!  Learn how to knit 2 socks at the same time!!!  I went to my LYS, Raging Wool, and took the class.  We are starting with a pair of knitted slippers.  It should be a fast project because the yarn we are using is super bulky.  It is called Lorna’s Laces, Shepherd Bulky.  I love it!!!  It is super soft!  The color way I picked is called Mineshaft.  Its a pretty mix of greys, browns & purple.

I also bought new needles.  I needed size 10, 40 inch circulars.  I love these needles.  They are Knitters Pride, Symfonie Cubics.  I’ve never had needles like this.  They are square!!!  There were others to choose from, but since I was learning something new, I figured I would also use needles I have never had before.  I didn’t ever know they made square needles.  And you know what….  I totally love them!  I think I may get more!  LOL

Beautiful!!!

Beautiful!!!

Now for the learning of how to knit 2 socks at the same time.  I was confused & overwhelmed!  LOL … I felt like a beginner!  It took me a while to understand exactly what I was doing.  The pattern is very simple.  It is K2P2 ribbing for a couple of inches and then just stockinette stitch the rest of the way.  However,  since I felt like I was all over the place I messed up on the ribbing.  The part where you finish with one side of sock 1 & 2 and then start on the other side of sock 2, instead of purling I knit.  So after a few rows we realized my mistake & I had to take everything apart & start over.  And the cast on part is the part I was so confused with!  You have to cast on half of sock one & then all of sock 2 & then go back to cast on the other half of sock 1 but before you do that you have to position the socks correctly….  I was like huh….  LOL  Thankfully Alice, the owner & the one who was teaching me, was super patient & walked me through it…both times!  She said it will probably take a few times of casting on before I fully get it.  So I see more slippers in my future!  After a few rows,  I felt confident enough that I could finish the cuff & do the heel flap at home.

I’m supposed to go back on Saturday to do the turning of the heel & the gusset.

Though I’m feeling like I understand it more so I may, if I have time, try to do that on my own before Saturday…  LOL

But I’m very excited to be learning something new!  I hope I can master this technique!  Maybe after that I will learn how to do socks from the toe down.  hmmmmm…..

    • Yes it’s still very confusing to me. I’m using both ends of the ball of yarn. The outside for sock 1 & the inside for sock 2. And trying not to tangle and confuse the 2. Lol
I’ll probably do a few more slippers just to feel more comfortable with the method but for right now my DPNs are still my go-to method for socks.
