Kitten Socks

I have finished my second pair of socks made with the awesome Lollipop Yarn!  I totally love this yarn!   I have such a hard time deciding what pattern to use with this yarn because the it is so perfect that I feel the pattern has to be just as perfect!  LOL

The color way for this pair of socks is called Kitten.  I decided to use a pattern called Bryony Socks by Sara Elizabeth Schmidt.  I loved the pattern.  It is a 4 row repeat that is super simple to memorize.  The pattern just gave it that little extra flair with the lace but it doesn’t take away from the beautiful striping of this yarn.  I love the way it turned out! Lollipop Yarn Socks…..

I am totally addicted to Lollipop Yarn!  I am so glad that I was finally lucky enough to purchase a ball of this yarn!!  This color way is called Sentimental Journey.   It has my favorite colors, pink and green!!  And the yarn is so soft!  I just love it!  It is definitely one of my all time favorite yarns now!  I just hope I can continue to be lucky enough to get a ball here & there.  🙂

I had a hard time deciding what pattern to use.  I didn’t want it to be too complicated so that the beautiful striping of the yarn would be over powered by the pattern but I wanted something more than the average rib or stockinette stitch socks.

I finally decided on Simple Skyp Socks by Adrienee Ku.

Ordering Away

I’ve ordered a couple of things on Etsy recently.  I love Etsy!  One of these days I hope to be able to open my own Etsy store.  But in the meantime I find myself browsing Etsy looking for cute & different things.

A couple of weeks ago I decided I was going to order some tags for my knitting projects that I give as gifts.  I found a shop called Mountain Street Arts.

I’ve had it as a favorite for a while & I finally decided to order something.  I chose the small label & tag combo.  I felt this would be perfect.  I could use the tags for things like blankets, scarves, shawls…. and the labels for sweaters & well, who knows…. LOL  I’m glad I went with this combo because it gives me the choice on whether I want to lightly sew on a label or just attach a tag.  And speaking of sewing on a label, my thought is to not sew it on so it’s permenant but so it can be easily taken off if the recipient wants. Catching up…..

Wow, I can’t believe it has been 4 weeks since my last post!  Eeek!!  I wish I could say I have a bunch of FOs… but I don’t.  😦  Though I have been working on a couple of things.  I finished another pair of yoga socks.  I like these much better than the previous ones that I made using the stretchy yarn.

This was done using Yoga Socks #153 by Patons.  And I used Plymouth yarn Sockotta in pink/green/orange.  I loved this yarn!!  Too bad it is discontinued!!  Thankfully there was enough left over so I can squeeze out another pair of socks & I do have another skein of this but in blues & greens in my stash!!  🙂

The pattern is easy to remember, 8 row repeat.  It looks great & is nice & stretchy!  I loved the no heel aspect of it!  They knitted up pretty quickly too!  I hope the recipient loves them as much as I enjoyed knitting them!  I’m going to have to make more of these!  LOL Continue reading

Memories….

Last week after I finished my Neon Socks I wasn’t sure what to work on next.  I still have my sweater that I’m working on but I needed something else.  So I stood in front of my stash closet & looked around at everything.  My eyes fell on a bag of pink & grey sock yarn.  I love this combo so I grabbed the bag & took the contents out.  Well, there were 4 skeins of Patons Stretch Socks yarn along with a pattern to make pedicure socks.

I sat back & remembered the exact day I got this, but I want to give you a little background first.

My mom taught me to knit a few years ago.  You can read about that here.  But since then every once in a while we would both work on the same project, kind of like our own little KAL.  We made socks & sweaters & afghans…   So when my mom would come across something that she thought would be good for both of us to work on she would buy everything needed.  This was one of those things.  She came over to my house with the pattern & the yarn for both of us to make this project.  Well, one thing led to another and we never actually made it.  So, this was it!  I was going to make these socks! FO: Neon Socks!!!

Whew!  I have finally finished the Neon Socks!  I totally loved the yarn!  The colors are amazing!  So happy & bright & cheerful!  But…….  the pattern, just wasn’t feeling it!

IMG_4766 IMG_4768

So quick recap:  The yarn was Plymouth Yarn, Neon Now in the 002 Orange/Pink color way.  And the pattern was the one that went with this yarn, Neon Now Basic Socks by Plymouth Yarn.

I just wasn’t feeling this pattern, so I wasn’t excited when I picked it up to work on it, which is probably why it took me so long to finish.  And now after I have finished I don’t have that feeling of satisfaction!  The yarn was so pretty & so awesome I wanted the socks to be just as awesome & I feel let down.  😦

My Sock Knitting Tools

For Christmas I received some very useful presents.  I totally love them and wanted to share them with you.

First up is my pattern protector and pattern magnet.  I love this!  I use it all the time!  When I’m sitting at the couch knitting I can prop it up because it has a strap that you can snap to the outer part of the pattern case  so that it stands up on it’s own.  And you can even write on the anti-glare vinyl  using a wet-erase marker.  This way you can write little notes & not ruin your pattern.  When you are done, you just wipe it away!.  This is just awesome for me!  And the pattern magnet I love because it is just so easy to stop knitting and know exactly where I left off.

Socks, Socks and hmmmm…. Socks…

Last Saturday I went back to my LYS, Raging Wool,  for my second class on knitting 2 socks at the same time.  I felt like I pretty much got it but since the class I signed up for included 3 sessions I wanted to go.  And I must say I really enjoyed going.  It was so peaceful to be sitting there knitting with all that beautiful yarn around me & just chit chatting with everyone.  I truly lost track of time while I was there, I think I was there for over 2 hours.  LOL  Oh, And while I was there Alice, the owner, was talking about some yarn samples that she just got in for socks.  Of course my curiosity got the best of me & I asked if I could see it.  And it was beautiful!!!  I absolutely loved it and asked if it was for sale & if I could buy one skein!  LOL  It was Plymouth Yarn Neon.  And though I wanted one of each I bought the Orange/Pink one.  My eyes just kept falling on that one.  I love it!!  It just looked so happy & cheery that I couldn’t resist buying it!!  I can’t wait to use it!!

1 Sock Done…Or Is It Half a Sock…

The Socks with Sarah KAL starts today!  This is going to be a fun KAL & the best part is I’m going to knit a bunch of socks this year because of it!  YAY!!  The official start date is today however, I started this pair of socks in December, did a few rows & then put it down until the beginning of January when I finally finished with holiday gifts & was able to sit & knit something that I wanted.  🙂  And when I saw this KAL being mentioned by some of the other blogs that I follow, I decided to join in.  I love-love-love to knit socks, so this now gives me an excuse to knit socks every day!

I just finished sock #1 last night.  I’m very happy with the way it came out.  I’m knitting the November Socks and it is a 12 row repeat.  I’m using Patons Kroy socks Jacquard.  I love the yarn & the combination of colors.  I don’t know if it is the yarn or the pattern but the sock seems like a nice thick sock!  Good & sturdy…LOL

The toe of the sock was done differently than I’ve done before.  I was decreasing at the end of each needle, where normally I decrease at the end of one needle & then at the beginning of the next one.  I wasn’t sure how this would look and for a minute I thought I was not understanding the pattern correctly.  I had to go back and look at pictures.  LOL  I was afraid that the decrease in the middle of the toe would be bothersome, but it isn’t.  And the way it ended up looking is pretty.

A Little Bump In the Road…

Last week was a bit of a blur for me.  I had surgery last Monday and was in the hospital for a couple of days.  Thankfully, I was home for Thanksgiving and my wonderful family brought everything over so we could spend the day together!  I’m finally starting to feel a little better so I’ve picked up my knitting and am trying to catch up.

Yesterday I finished my Turtle Socks!!  Yay!!!  As I mentioned in my last post the pattern was very vague so I took notes & now that I have the pattern in a format that I can follow I love it!  Yay!  The actual pattern is called Knitted ankle socks with lace by Drops design.  And my notes are here.  This sock was actually a lot of fun to knit once I got the pattern straight.  It’s a simple 8 row repeat and since it is an ankle sock it knits up super quick!

There were a few things with the pattern that I had never done before.  The way they turned the heel was a bit strange.  Usually when I make socks I decrease a lot more than what this pattern called for.  But the end result worked out just fine!  Also, I never really understood the toe decrease section of the pattern so I did it the way I know how.  Normally I use the Kitchener stitch to bind off but this pattern had me pull the yarn through the stitches.  I was a little leery of doing it like this but I did and the end result was just fine.  I think a little more pointy than usual but when I tried on the sock you couldn’t tell.  And without further ado here is the sock!
